  • The Brief

Western Source is a platform all about giving students from Western Sydney a voice. They needed a brand that felt energetic, trustworthy, and genuinely student-led, without looking like generic university material.

The Challenge: We had to design an identity that visually represented dialogue and community and could clearly separate stories from the four different disciplines (Journalism, Arts, Design, Comms) while looking great on social media and on campus.

  • The Solution

I created a dynamic, flexible brand system built around the idea of conversation amplified.

    1. The Look and FeelThe core logo is two simple, overlapping speech bubbles, immediately telling you this is a place for dialogue. I chose a bold, energetic colour palette of deep purple and bright yellow, supported by secondary colours (like coral and green) that let them colour-code their content by topic. This made it fast and easy for students to find the stories they cared about.
    2. Key Results
      • Student-Centric Icons: I turned the speech bubbles into colour-coded icons for each faculty, ensuring instant clarity on Instagram and across campus signage.
      • High-Impact Typography: I paired a credible, confident serif font (GT Alpina) for headlines with a clean, readable sans-serif (Sofia Pro) for body text - making the brand feel serious about news but modern in its design.
      • The Physical Experience: I translated the brand to the real world with the "Story Stop Initiative," a pop-up listening booth that actively invites students to share their ideas, making the brand a true co-creator on campus.

The new identity successfully gave Western Source a vibrant, credible, and approachable foundation to connect, engage, and amplify the next generation of storytellers.
